Meet The Team: Andrew Bentley
Read on to find out more about our Data and Insights Analyst, Andy, his passion for numbers and his love of pottery.
Here at Generate UK, we are a family. So, we wanted to introduce our family members to you.
This is a series where you will get to find out more about who we are as well as a few fun facts.
We have already introduced you to a whole variety of our team from our Head of Client Services, Lindsay Dier to our Graphic Designer, Andrea Tallett.
Next up we want to introduce you to our Data and Insights Analyst, Andrew Bentley.
Tell us a bit about what you do here at Generate UK
My job role involves delivering insights that come from archives data, and typically a lot of that, is giving clients the information, they need to be able to move forward in their strategic approach.
This also involves building analytics solutions that solve specific problems. It could be that they don’t have visibility of a particular conversion, or they don’t have visibility of a particular area of their website.
A lot of what I’m doing currently is connecting all these different solutions up so it could be connecting their web analytics to their CRM and helping to maintain some level of visibility.
In addition, I help bring on new clients, account manage some of our clients myself, alongside supporting the team with theirs.
Why did you choose to specialise in data and analytics?
For me, it was the passion to be able to deliver on promises. In marketing a lot of what we do is say “let’s deliver this piece of work by this time”, and sometimes that doesn’t happen due to so many variables.
You realise that when you start to visualise data and when you start to record data yourself, you can manipulate that timeline a little bit more to be able to do the work you need to be doing and in the best way possible.
That ultimately comes back to the area of visibility in that, the more you can see, the better chance you have of getting something right first time and I think the connection made between the visibility and the actual doing of the work was relatively early on in my career at Generate UK.
From the beginning I felt like I had a certain amount of knowledge and insight into this field. I could see that we could use the data we have to inform the decisions we make, and that vision continues to develop every day.
Now, data and analytics is giving us and our clients the power they need to make the best decisions they can.
What’s the best thing about working for Generate UK?
I love working with a diverse range of talents and skills and I also love my co-workers.
During the lockdowns, did you discover a new hobby or was there a particular hobby or activity that you did more of?
I started pottery, or to be precise I started potting, I believe that is the correct term.
I tried to be a little bit more creative than I usually am. Having a creative output really helped relieve the stress of being stuck at home and working at home. It also really helped me have a creative mind-set for work, as I would do it either at the start or end of each day.
What else do you like to do in your spare time?
I paint a bit, I also enjoy reading as well, but I read really boring books that are very technical or scientific (laughs). I don’t really have a lot of hobbies. But, I have gotten into cooking since moving house.
Favourite food?
Bangers and mash, that’s my favourite food. But I do also love poutine.
Favourite drink?
My favourite alcoholic drink is double Red Bull and vodka followed by tequila beer, and my soft drink would be lemonade.
Favourite film?
I really love Shaun of the Dead.
Favourite Author?
I’m going to say, Doug Durst, as I loved The Ship of Theseus.
Favourite animal?
Hedgehogs.
Favourite holiday destination?
Boscastle in Cornwall.
One last question, if you had a superhero power, what would it be and why?
It would have to be a matrix style ability to download all the knowledge that I could possibly want for any scenario.
